Straw Bales

Straw bales can be placed downstream of works to act as a barrier and may help trap suspended sediment while allowing the water to pass through the bales.

Straw bales are used to intercept and detain small amounts of sediment from disturbed areas of limited extent to prevent sediment from leaving the site. It must be emphasised that careful anchoring and regular checking of the bales is recommended.

The straw bales method is a cost effective solution and can be enhanced by other Sediment Pollution Control products we offer, such as our SediMat™ and Terrastop Premium Silt Fence - which are more renowned products used to tackle sediment pollution.
