CoirPallet and Sods

CoirPallets are biodegradable, coconut fibre mattress substrates that work in harmony with nature, to protect and support banks, and shorelines, while promoting restoration of wetland environments. Whilst CoirSods are specially formed sods of compressed coir fibre which are a greener way of maintaining or improving the environment.

Erosion Control

The dense coir fibre CoirPallet pads shield the ground from weather and water erosion, and the fine fibre matrix of both substrates also filter out silts and promote sedimentation. Consequently general water quality is improved through the ability to control erosion and counteract non-point source pollution.

CoirSods are an innovative, green erosion control system, which will help when the stability of engineering with gabions is combined with the benefits of immediate vegetation to provide rapid environmental and ecological regeneration.

Vegetation Restoration

CoirPallets provide an ideal, stable growth substrate for marginal plants - encouraging rapid establishment of plant colonies and healthy root systems. They are therefore particularly beneficial on projects where no suitable soil medium exists (e.g. steel/timber pile, or gabion, faces and floating islands). Native plants can be selected for their suitability to physical conditions, the feed and cover offered to aquatic species and wildlife, or aesthetic reasons. As roots mature to create an effective binding matrix the coir fibre progressively degrades, leaving a vegetation framework for a full wetland community.

With CoirSods, they can be used as a healthy stand of vigorous vegetative cover along the top front edge or upper face of a hard structure at the water line to create an attractive soft engineering finish to hard engineering solutions.

Special Features

CoirPallets and Sods can also be supplied attached to a buoyant framework to create vegetated floating islands for land predator free nesting habitats.

Sustainability

Coir Pallet and Sods substrates are made using virgin coir fibre which is a by-product of the coconut industry so is free of contaminants and satisfies important environmental considerations.
