Introduction
GrassMat™ is a pre-seeded, tough, natural fibre, substrate, designed to overcome the problems of seed displacement, and the use of environmentally undesirable plastics, commonly experienced with alternative forms of seeded erosion control blankets.
The matting is recommended on sites where seed is prone to washout (coastlines, riverbanks, flood plains, channel linings etc.), excessive depravation (bird colonies), seed application is impractical (steep-wall systems, gabion linings, inaccessible areas etc.), or where competitive weed growth is a problem.
Alternatively, GrassMat™ can be used as a soil free turf by pre-growing on a polythene sheeted area.
The special construction securely traps seed (to any mix) along with optional fertiliser in the centre of the blanket during manufacture, so there is no risk of displacement during handling or from subsequent high flow rates.
Furthermore, GrassMat™ is made purely from natural fibres which are mechanically bonded together, so does not rely on ecologically undesirable plastic netting (which presents a snagging risk to wildlife) to retain the fibre.
Kindly note, as with all seeded areas, is important that GrassMat™ is regularly irrigated and keep moist until vegetation has established.
